Each business unit typically has its own specific reporting needs that do not look like those of the other units. The units depend on the ability to share the same data but have different processes operating on data. At senior management level, it will typically be necessary to be able to pull aggregated reports for selected key dimensions. There will typically be many examples of local data that are unique for the individual business unit, and part of these data sources can be “saved” in more peripheral systems. Local data with relevance for reporting should be analysed further; perhaps they are already shared unconsciously by several units, or perhaps they are and will remain purely local – and the harmonisation must be adapted to that. The data architecture in BI should be shared across business units with options for local additions.
